Dos Gringos Show Information
I have some work up at Dos Gringos Cafe in the Mount Pleasant neighborhood of Washington, DC.
Here are my About the Artist and About this Show statements for the show.
The opening is Sat, June 9 from 3-5PM. I’ll be hanging out with a big pitcher of iced tea and whatever friends show up.
ABOUT THE ARTIST
Bethany Lee is a Mount Pleasant resident, originally from Minnesota. She studied sculpture at the University of Dallas and then had many different adventures before settling down to make art full time 9 months ago.
She has always enjoyed working with her hands. That and being drawn to beauty form the basis of her work.
Bethany is also currently making a lot of cast concrete decorative pavers, but those are hard to hang on the wall, so check out her website if you would like to learn more about her other work.
ABOUT THE ARTWORK
These landscapes are done in watercolor, colored pencil, or a combination of both. They are primarily plain air works, meaning they were created on the spot as opposed to from the photograph. They represent the practice of drawing and painting as a way to meditate on the visible, tangible reality before the artist at a particular moment in time.
The subject matter of the art on the walls at Dos Gringos in this show is the local area and provides an opportunity for the viewer to take a moment to stop and consider attentively the place where he or she lives.
